Dance Studio Software in Mumbai and Thane: A Guide

StudioPartnerStudioPartner8 min read13 Oct 2026

A dance studio in Mumbai or Thane runs to the local-train timetable. Students arrive after school and a crowded commute, parents pay by UPI from Lower Parel or BKC, and from June to September the rain decides which batches actually run. Most studio software was never built for that, so here is what a Mumbai or Thane studio really needs from it.

The idea in brief
  • A Mumbai or Thane studio needs batches, cash and UPI fees, attendance, enquiries and WhatsApp in one place, not a dollar-priced booking app built around class packs.
  • Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai are all in Maharashtra, so extra centres usually go under your existing GST registration. Confirm the details with your CA.
  • Plan for monsoon closures in May: a written makeup policy, a parent message ready to send, and cancelled classes marked so attendance stays honest.
  • StudioPartner is free forever for up to 30 students. Basic costs ₹999/month + GST with unlimited students, and each extra branch costs ₹499/month + GST.

What should dance studio management software do for a Mumbai or Thane studio?

It should keep your students, batches, fees, attendance and enquiries in one place, record cash and UPI side by side, and reach parents on WhatsApp, not email. In Mumbai and Thane it also has to handle batches in hired halls, more than one centre, and weeks when heavy rain cancels classes.

Search for this and you mostly get lists of global platforms. As we found when we worked out the real rupee cost of dance studio software, those are usually priced in dollars and built for drop-in classes. A studio in Borivali or Ghodbunder Road runs on monthly batches, monthly fees and a parents' WhatsApp group.

Space is the other Mumbai reality. Plenty of studios teach in a society hall, a school hall after hours, or a rented room booked by the slot. That means fixed batch timings, tight capacity and very little room for a batch that overruns.

Here is the checklist we would use before picking anything:

What you needWhy it matters in Mumbai and ThaneWhat to check
Batches by timing, level and venueHalls are booked by the slot, so timings are fixedCan you see every batch's strength at a glance?
Cash and UPI in one recordParents pay both ways, often in the same monthDoes it show paid, partly paid and overdue?
WhatsApp remindersParents read WhatsApp on the train, not emailCan you send a fee reminder in a tap?
More than one centreStudios grow from Andheri to Thane or VashiDoes each branch keep its own students and batches?
Cancelled classesMonsoon red alerts shut classes at short noticeCan you cancel a batch without wrecking attendance?
Enquiry trackingWalk-ins spike before Navratri and summerDoes every enquiry get a follow-up date?

If a tool misses the first three, it was not built for an Indian studio. Our dance studio management software overview shows how the pieces fit together.

Batches

Every batch, its timing and its strength in one view.

Fees

Cash and UPI side by side, with dues visible.

Attendance

Marked per batch, with cancelled days kept out.

WhatsApp

Reminders go where parents actually read them.

How do you run dance studio branches across Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai?

Run every centre from one account, but keep each branch's students, batches and fees separate so you can see which one is earning. Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai are all in Maharashtra, so a second centre is usually added to your existing GST registration rather than needing a new one.

That makes Mumbai simpler than Delhi NCR, where a branch across a state line generally needs its own GSTIN. We covered that in dance studio software for Delhi NCR. Within one state, an extra centre is usually added as an additional place of business under your existing GSTIN, though there are exceptions. Whether you need to register at all depends on turnover, which we explain in GST for dance studios in India. Your CA should confirm the specifics.

Here is how we would set up a studio with a main centre in Andheri West and a second one in Thane on StudioPartner. Both branches sit under one login. Each batch is created inside the branch where it runs, and each student and fee belongs to the branch they attend. So when you ask "is Thane paying for itself yet?", the answer is in your records, not in your head. The steps are in our help guide on branches.

The cost matters too. On Basic or Pro, a second branch is ₹499/month + GST, so you do not need a second subscription. If teachers run the Thane centre, give them their own logins rather than sharing yours. Staff accounts come with Pro.

How should a Mumbai dance studio plan for monsoon closures?

Decide your rules before June. Write down whether rained-out classes get makeups, how long a makeup stays valid, and whether the monthly fee changes. Then mark cancelled classes properly and watch attendance closely, because the monsoon is when students drift away without saying anything.

Rain closures happen every year. On 18 August 2025, the BMC closed educational institutions in Mumbai for the afternoon session under a red alert, and Thane district shut its schools on 20 August. Those orders covered schools, not dance studios. But on a day when schools shut and trains are crawling, no parent sends a child across the city for an evening batch.

Three things make the season manageable:

  • A written policy. State plainly whether missed classes carry forward and whether the fee stays the same. Parents argue far less over a rule they read in May than one you invent in August. Our guide to handling late fee payments has wording you can adapt.
  • Cancelled, not absent. If a batch did not run and you leave the register blank, every student looks absent. In StudioPartner you can mark classes cancelled per batch, with a reason like "Heavy rain", so that date stays out of the attendance percentage.
  • Early follow-ups. After two wet weeks, some students simply stop coming. The not-attending list shows who has drifted, so you can message them in week two, not week eight. Our post on reducing student dropout explains why that window matters.

In Mumbai, the monsoon tests your systems. If your rules, your message and your attendance are ready before June, a red-alert week costs you classes, not students.

How do you handle festival-season workshops and walk-ins?

Treat them as separate short batches with their own fee, not as extra students squeezed into your regular classes. Before Ganeshotsav and Navratri, Mumbai and Thane studios often run short garba, dandiya or performance workshops. Record every enquiry with a follow-up date, because these are your best chance at new regular students.

Picture a Thane studio that runs a three-week garba workshop before Navratri. We would set it up in StudioPartner as its own batch, with its own timing and fee, so it never confuses the regular monthly dues. Every walk-in and phone call goes in as a lead. When the workshop ends, the studio has a list of families who have already danced with them, and that list is ready for a WhatsApp message about the regular batches.

That last step is the one most studios skip. A workshop student who enjoyed three weeks is the warmest enquiry you will ever get. Our guides on how to organise a dance workshop and converting enquiries into students cover the planning and the follow-up.

How much does dance studio software cost for a Mumbai or Thane studio?

StudioPartner is free forever for up to 30 students and one branch. Basic is ₹999 a month or ₹9,999 a year plus GST, with unlimited students. Pro is ₹1,499 a month or ₹15,996 a year plus GST. Each extra branch on Basic or Pro adds ₹499 a month plus GST.

Here is how that maps to three common Mumbai setups:

Your studioPlan that fitsMonthly cost
One hall, a couple of batches, under 30 studentsFree₹0
One centre, several batches, you run it yourselfBasic₹999 + GST
Andheri and Thane centres, with teachersPro + one extra branch₹1,998 + GST

FAQs

Is there dance studio software built for Indian studios in Mumbai?

Yes. StudioPartner is studio management software built for Indian dance, music, yoga, martial-arts and fitness studios, priced in rupees. It handles students, batches, fees, attendance, leads, reports and WhatsApp reminders. Most other tools in search results are global platforms priced in dollars and built around class packs, not monthly batches and fees.

Can one account handle my Mumbai and Thane centres?

Yes. In StudioPartner, both centres sit under one account, and each branch keeps its own students, batches and fees, so you can see how each one is doing. The Free plan covers one branch. On Basic or Pro, each extra branch costs ₹499 a month plus GST, so you do not need a second subscription.

Do I need a new GST registration for a Thane or Navi Mumbai branch?

Usually not. Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai are all in Maharashtra, and a second centre in the same state is generally added as an additional place of business under your existing GSTIN. There are exceptions, and whether you must register at all depends on turnover. Confirm the details with your CA before you open.

What happens to attendance when rain cancels a class?

If you leave the register blank, every student looks absent and their percentage drops unfairly. In StudioPartner, you mark the batch cancelled for that date and add a reason, such as heavy rain. That date is then excluded from the attendance percentage, so your records show real absences, not monsoon days.

How do I move my studio from a register or Excel to software?

Start with your student list. If it is already in Excel, import it, or the StudioPartner team will load it for you free. Then set up your batches, record this month's fees, and mark attendance from the next class. The 14-day free trial needs no card, so you can test it on real batches first.

What to do first

Before you compare any software, run the free Studio Health Check to see where your studio is losing time and fees. Then write down your monsoon makeup policy while the weather is calm. If a Thane or Navi Mumbai centre is on your mind, ask your CA how it fits your GST registration before you sign the lease.
