Every workshop starts the same way. You post the reel, write "link in bio", and then the DMs begin: "Kitne ka hai?", "UPI kar diya, screenshot bhej raha hoon", "Mera naam list mein hai?" By the day of the class you have a Google Form, three UPI apps, a WhatsApp group with 60 people in it, and no clear idea who has actually paid. Selling dance workshop tickets online in India does not have to work like this. Here is how a proper booking page changes it, what it costs, and what happens to the money.
- A booking page with online payment replaces the form, the screenshots and the "did you pay?" messages. The list of who paid builds itself.
- Buyers pay by UPI, card or netbanking. The ticket reaches them by email with a QR code, and you scan it at the door.
- On StudioPartner, hosting is on every plan, including Free. Free events cost nothing. On paid tickets the platform fee is 6% + GST for studios on a paid plan, 9% + GST otherwise.
- Your money is released after the event, usually within three working days.
Why do Google Forms and UPI screenshots break down for workshops?
They break down because the form, the payment and the confirmation are three separate things that you have to match by hand. Every "paid" claim needs a screenshot check, every seat count needs a recount, and nothing tells the buyer they are actually in. The bigger the workshop, the more time this eats.
We ran workshops this way for years. A 40-seat guest-choreographer class meant an evening of matching screenshots to names, two people who paid twice, and one who paid to the wrong UPI ID. It is the same fee-chasing problem we describe in how to collect dance class fees online, just compressed into one weekend.
The scale of this is not small. RenTech Digital's SmartScraper counts 21,153 dance schools in India as of April 2026, and almost all of them still register workshop students through "link in bio" and DMs. The demand is there. The tooling was not.
How does selling workshop tickets online actually work?
You create an event page, share its link, and people book from their phone. The page shows the date, venue, artists, ticket types and your terms. The buyer pays online, gets a ticket by email, and appears on your registrations list as paid. At the door you scan the QR code on their phone.
On StudioPartner this lives under Host Event in the dashboard. Creating an event takes a few minutes:
- Title, banner and date. The same poster you post on Instagram works as the banner.
- Venue, and the artists people are booking to see.
- Tickets: free, or paid with one or more ticket types (early bird, regular, group).
- What the booking form asks for. Name and phone are always collected.
- Your refund choice, and your About and terms, in Hindi or English.
- Publish. You get a link for Instagram and WhatsApp, and the event appears on the StudioPartner events page where dancers look for workshops near them.

What does it cost to sell tickets online?
Free events are always free. On paid tickets, StudioPartner charges a platform fee that already includes the payment gateway's charge: 6% + GST if your studio is on a paid plan, 9% + GST otherwise. The buyer pays only the ticket price. There is no setup fee and no monthly fee for hosting.
| Studio | Platform fee | On a Rs 1,500 ticket you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Basic or Pro plan | 6% + GST | Rs 1,393.80 |
| Free plan, or an outside organiser | 9% + GST | Rs 1,340.70 |
The plan you are on is the only thing that changes the rate. Compare the plans on the pricing page; hosting itself is on every one of them.
A workshop is a business event. The money should arrive with a list, not a pile of screenshots.
When do you get the money?
Ticket money is held until your event is over, then released to your bank, usually within three working days after the event ends. This protects buyers if an event is cancelled, and it means you never have to return money you have already spent.
Before your first paid event, you add your bank account and complete KYC with our payment partner, Razorpay. This usually takes one to three working days, and you can publish free events in the meantime. After that, Finance → Settlements shows where each payment is: on its way, or in your bank with the bank reference.
If your studio already collects class fees online, the same bank account is used. See how online fee collection works.
What happens with refunds and cancellations?
A buyer who cannot come is refunded in full from the registrations list, and the money goes back to the card or account they paid with in five to seven working days. The payment gateway does not return its own charge on a refund, about 2.36% of the amount, and that part is the organiser's.
If you cancel the whole event, every buyer is refunded in full automatically, including the platform fee. You do not chase 60 people for their UPI IDs. The full rules are in the organiser terms, and the step-by-step guide is in Host an event.
What if you are not a studio?
Choreographers, promoters and battle organisers can host too, without a studio subscription. The /host page gives you the same booking page, payments, check-in and refunds. You sign in with Google, add your payout account, and publish.
That matters because most workshops in India are run by individual artists, not studios. The artist profile on StudioPartner and the Network already connect artists and studios; hosting closes the loop.
FAQs
How do I sell tickets for a dance workshop in India?
Create an event page with ticket types and a price, share the link on Instagram and WhatsApp, and let buyers pay online by UPI or card. Tickets reach them by email with a QR code. On StudioPartner, Host Event does this on every plan, and free events cost nothing.
Do buyers need an app to book a workshop ticket?
No. They open the event link on their phone, pick a ticket, and pay by UPI, card or netbanking. The ticket arrives by email, and they can sign in to "My tickets" to find every ticket they have booked. No app download, no account before paying.
Can I run a free workshop or open class this way?
Yes. Free events are always free to host, with the same booking page, email tickets and QR check-in. Many studios use a free open class to collect leads, then follow up the way we describe in converting enquiries into students.
What is the platform fee on workshop tickets?
Six percent plus GST if your studio is on a paid plan, nine percent plus GST otherwise, and the payment gateway's charge is already inside it. On a Rs 1,500 ticket a studio on a paid plan receives Rs 1,393.80. Buyers pay only the ticket price.
How does check-in work at the door?
Every ticket carries a QR code. Open the event on your phone, tap Check-in and scan. The ticket is marked as used with the time, so it cannot be scanned twice. Your registrations list shows who has arrived, and who is still on the way.
